The Creation of the Cowboy Cookie

Have you tried a cowboy cookie?

They are pretty amazing if I do say so myself. Easily one of my favourite products The Bakery has to offer and I believe it has to do with the story behind it.

In June 2013 our neighbouring province of Alberta suffered some of the worst flooding seen on record. Homes, business and even the zoo filled with water from the local usually tame rivers. I kept thinking about the devastation the people of Calgary, High River and other affected communities must be experiencing. What would I do if my home and business ended up under water?

One evening the topic came up in conversation and the idea of a cookie fundraiser was born. The idea was to create a new cookie to raise money for the Red Cross to help those affected by the flooding in Alberta. $1.00 from every cookie sold over the month of July would be donated to the Red Cross relief efforts.

A hearty oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips, coconut and roasted pecans seemed beautifully appropriate for the cause. What better name to call it than a “Cowboy Cookie” for our cattle raising neighbours. That summer hundreds of the Cowboy cookies sold. They continue to be one of the most popular items sold in the shop.

When your goal is to help others I don’t think you can fail.

I think that is why the Cowboy cookie has continued to be successful.

Go on and try one today. I think you’ll be impressed.
