Have you heard of Kombucha, the drink that the ancient Chinese called the “Immortal Health Elixir’?
I was gifted a bottle a few Christmas’s ago by a lovely woman named Rachel who works for The Bakery. The non-descript bottle looked a bit interesting in that it had a yellowish tinge to it and had some sediment forming on the bottom. Rachel assured me that it was meant to look this way and was safe to drink her home brew. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the drink after working up the courage to consume it. It was months later that I started noticing it in the local grocery stores. Seems that there was something to this fancy elixir….

During the summer of 2014 an amazing woman named Christina made an appointment with me to let me sample a few different flavors of Kombucha that her company Raincoast Kombucha was making and distributing out of Powell River. I was so impressed by all the different flavor combinations. I agreed on the spot to purchase a few cases and see if customers in The Bakery enjoyed the experience as much as I did.
The response has been fantastic.
Kombucha can be described as an acquired taste but in my experience there is a flavour for everyone.
